2023 RIP CURL CANAM Surfing Championships – FINAL RESULTS

presented by White Claw Canada and Red Bull Canada

Cox Bay, Tofino, Canada

April 14-16, 2023

185 competitors

12 RIP CURL CANAM Titles

It has now been a week since we packed up the the last of the Rip Curl CANAM contest scaffolding, Red Bull’s awesome Athlete Zone, White Claw’s epic Shore Club, Heineken 0.0 rad Surf z0.0ne, and the event Sponsor tents, YETI, Endless Surf, Surfrider Foundation, plus the newest addition to the family, Canadian Union for Skilled Workers (CUSP)… and now looking back, it will no doubt be remembered for being the very best comp we ever had! It was massive test not just for the surfers competing, but for the production and events team to deliver, and everyone fully stepped up!

The Wild West Coast of Vancouver Island fully lived up to its name with conditions ranging from excellent to challenging, experiencing all four seasons in a single day, including sleet, heavy rain, snow, sun and powder blue skies. Winds ranged from very strong offshores, to side shores, to light onshore and all the division champions were the very best at adapting their performances to all the challenges that mother nature and the other competitors could throw at them – which is exactly what we want from a surf comp in order to crown the very best.

Day 1: 4’-5’ Clean, really nice west swell, Offshore winds, very consistent throughout the tides.

Day 2: 4-6’+, new strong west swell, blustery offshore winds, A LOT of rain.

Day 3: Finals Day: as big as Cox Bay handles in the early morning, to a much more manageable, very consistent, head high and bigger sets.

A Huge Congrats to all competitors that came from all across Canada and around the World, and especially the finalists and the twelve newly crowned 2023 Rip Curl CANAM Champions for consistently pushing their performances to world class levels!

I am sincerely sorry if I have left anyone out – it’s a huge on-site team of 45 people, plus contractors and suppliers that makes this event GO. The 12 months of planning, permits, funding, sponsors, coordinating suppliers, contractors, staff, volunteers, etc, etc, but at the end of the day, when we see the Pure Stoke on everyone’s faces, we know that all the effort, sleepless nights, frozen body parts, that it is all SOOOOO WORTH IT! We will see you all again in 2024, we can’t Freak’n Wait!
