Ocea Green (CAN) Completes Her Run at the 26th Rip Curl GromSearch International Surfing Final in Hossegor, France
Canadian surfer Ocea Green, the 2025 North American GromSearch Champion, wrapped up her week at the 26th Rip Curl GromSearch International Final in Hossegor, France, where 16 of the world’s best U16 surfers came together to compete for the international title. Although the results did not fall in her favor this time, Ocea represented Canada and North America with professionalism, heart, and a strong competitive spirit.
This year marked a meaningful step forward for Canadian junior surfing. Ocea’s journey began at the CSA Surf Canada x Rip Curl Nationals in Tofino from May 9 to 11, which hosted the GromSearch qualifier for the first time. This new pathway allowed young Canadian surfers to earn a direct spot into the North American Championships and ultimately into the International Final. Ocea embraced the opportunity, winning the North American Championship in Virginia and earning her place on the world stage in Hossegor.
Before the event, Ocea shared her excitement and gratitude.
“I am super happy with my results at the North American Championship in Virginia and I am excited to get the opportunity to represent North America in the international GromSearch final. Hopefully we get good waves and have a fun time in Hossegor. Thank you Rip Curl for having a qualifier in Canada, it made it all possible.”
The Rip Curl GromSearch is one of the most respected junior development platforms in surfing. According to Live Heats, more than 60 percent of current WSL Championship Tour athletes are former GromSearch winners. The last 18 WSL Women’s World Titles have been won by GromSearch finalists, and five of the six Olympic medalists at the last two Games competed in Rip Curl GromSearch events. Being part of this field is an achievement in itself and highlights the level of competition Ocea stepped into.
While the heats were not easy, Ocea gained important international experience and showcased the growing depth of Canada’s junior athletes. Competing in shifting conditions, new surf environments, and a high-pressure global field provides invaluable development for young surfers moving through the competitive pathway.
Surf Canada is proud of Ocea for her dedication, her effort in representing both Canada and North America, and her commitment to developing as an athlete. Experiences like this shape the next generation of Canadian surfers and continue building our presence on the world stage.
