LA28 Announces Competition Window for Olympic Surfing at Trestles, California

Surf Canada is pleased to share that the LA28 Olympic Games have confirmed the competition window for Surfing. The event will take place at Trestles State Beach in California from July 15 to 18, 2028. Contingency days are set for July 19 and July 23.

This announcement follows an important milestone for Canadian surfing. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Sanoa Olin became the first Canadian surfer to compete at the Games. Her performance was a proud moment for our country and marked a historic step forward for the sport in Canada. With Paris 2024 now complete, Surf Canada is ready to begin the next Olympic cycle.

Beginning the LA28 Cycle

The next years will focus on development, preparation, and international readiness. Surf Canada will continue to strengthen its high performance pathway.

Competition Details for LA28

The LA28 organizers have shared the following competition structure:

  • July 15 to 17 will be full competition days
  • July 18 is expected to be the medal day
  • Both men and women will compete within this window
  • July 19 and July 23 are available as contingency days

Trestles is known for consistent, high performance waves and is well suited for Olympic level competition.

What This Means for Canada

Confirmed dates allow Surf Canada to begin aligning the national and international schedule with the Olympic qualification pathway.

Canadian surfers continue to grow in experience through ISA World Championships, Pan American events, and global training opportunities. This momentum provides a strong foundation at the start of the upcoming cycle.

Looking Ahead

Surf Canada is committed to supporting athletes as they work toward the 2028 Olympic Games. The goal is to build on the progress made in Paris 2024 and continue advancing Canadian surfing on the world stage.

More updates will be shared as LA28 qualification details become available.
