Teahupo’o, Tahiti: “The thrill of Victory, the agony of defeat”
Here, not all are equal, but those that have qualified are all given the same opportunity, pros & amateurs, legends & rookies – Welcome to the Olympic Games, where athletes are judged solely on their merit, and names of medalists are immortalized in the pantheon of Olympic Greats! The full spectrum of human drama of athletic competition on full display for the World to experience is what makes the Olympic Games so universally compelling. The Human Spirit is Olympic.
“I feel so proud to be the first Canadian surfer to compete in the Olympics. Being born and raised in Tofino, BC and learning to surf in the North Pacific waters off of Vancouver island has been so special. Being in the Olympics is a dream come true and it’s an honour to represent myself, my family, my community, our island, our country, and all it’s given me along with all the local surfers who helped pave this path and those that will follow in my footsteps. I feel so grateful for the opportunity.”
